Hey all! Alex's newest blog is up and ready to read! It's about the catcher position and first base for the Cubs in 2010 and it includes predictions for Geo and D Lee! On the Cubs front, with Angel Guzman out for the year, that leaves a hole in the bullpen. We know there'll be Marmol, Caridad, Grabow, Marshall, and either Gorzelanny or Samardzija, but that still leaves two spots. Lefty John Gaub, who the Cubs got from the Indians in the Marky D trade appears to be a leading candidate for one of the spots. The Cubs are also looking at other teams for a trade, perhaps for Jason Frasor of the Blue Jays or Heath Bell of the Padres, or maybe even if we're lucky, Kerry Wood (it won't be, but we can dream, can't we?)! Or there's always the options still on the market like a John Smoltz or "Stormy" Weathers. What will happen we'll just have to wait and see, but we doubt the Cubs go into the season with the mix of arms they have at the moment. In other news, that bastard Milton Bradley is throwing a hissy fit again, saying he felt like a prisoner in chicago. Then he went on to say how he felt that Lou should have appologized to him in front of the team. The team fired back, with Soriano saying that he gets booed, but when a player gets booed you have to understand that they're paying for the tickets and if you're not producing, it's their right to boo. Dempster disputed Bradley's claim that he was hated because he is black by saying that if he blew a save when he was closer, fans would be waiting outside the park to call him "Dumpster." Hendry told Bradly to look no further than Milton Bradley for the reason he did not succeed in Wrigley (Way to go, Jim! Fire back!). The man has been gone for months but still can't shake off "how mean the Cubs fans were." That's a recipe for success on probably his last chance in the majors. What a jackass.

Hey all! So yesturday was a HUGE day for the Bears and we all know why. Julius Peppers (who we LOVE), Chester Taylor (who's also really good and they got a really good deal on him), and the Man-man Tight End guy (which hopefully means the Bears will be trading Greg Olsen). I'm not gonna talk about that. As for the Cubs on the other hand, spring has been going well for them so far, even if they are losing to the Sox as I write this. Starlin Castro has been a beast, Colvin has been a beast, Byrd has looked good, Lee has looked good, Z and Wells both pitched well, and the Cubs as a team appear to be headed for a good year. It's exciting times for Cubs fans. In other news, Dan has a new blog up! That's right! Dan is back (at least for this one blog)! So check out his blog and look out for Alex's new one coming in the next couple of days.

Hey kids! A few notes today starting with the number five spot in the rotation! It appears Carlos Silva is out (thank god). He showed up to camp fat as a pig ready for slaughter and Lou said that unless he loses weight and gets in shape he won't even be considered for a starting job. So that leaves Sean Marshall (not really, in my book), Tom Gorzelanny, and Jeff Samardzija. Wanna be utility man Kevin Millar is impressing the veterans and rookies with his ability to make everyone laugh and keep them loose. If he can win the 25th man spot, that would be huge seeing as how their team chemistry in '09 was so far off. It would be nice to have a hard working guy like that who can not only be a veteran leader but also keep everyone loose during the long season. Starlin Castro has already made a strong impression on everyone in camp. Lou said Castro reminds him of a young Edgar Renteria, and it appears that Lou has taken a liking to the 19 year old prospect. As for the Bears, reports have them going hard after free agent Julius Peppers, and anyone who knows me know that I'm a HUGE fan of Peppers and everything he brings to a team. The man has played 8 years in the NFL and has 81 sacks plus some interceptions and touchdowns. He's a force on the outside of a D-Line and could make everyone else on that line look better because he constantly requires two men to block him. Let's hope they spend the cash to bring in a guy like Peppers, and after last offseason's big trade for Jay, no one can really say for sure that the Bears won't make a splash this offseason. Here's hoping they do!

Hey y'all! Alex's first blog going through the team position by position is up and he starts with the starting pitching. Check it out! Next up will be the bullpen later this week. In other Cubs related news, Alfonso Soriano said that his surgically repaired knee isn't 100% yet. He said he's at 75-80% right now but nothing is hurting him, it's just a matter of rebuilding and conditioning. He said he should be ready for opening day and hopefully he will be, but if not, the team has some insurance with Xavier Nady, so they hopefully won't rush Sori and end up with him being hurt all season long. He reported to Arizona today and is going to have his first workout with Rudy Jaramillo tomorrow. Tom Ricketts is also expected to arrive in Mesa tomorrow when the team has their first full-sqaud workout. He will likely address the team. Piniella said "It will be a new start for Cub baseball, and I think it's going to be a really good thing." Let's hope so. Also, there is a new poll up so take it!

Hello people! Well, surprise surprise! The Cubs won their arbitration case against Ryan Theriot. I'm pretty sure everyone knew they would, seeing as how Theriot is not all that good and was asking for $3.4MM. He will now make $2.6MM this year. In other news, Ron Santo has come out and said that "the Cubs won't miss Milton Bradley." Duh. Here's why we love Tom Ricketts. On a cold Chicago morning, with a loooong line of Cubs fans outside Wrigley Field waiting patiently to buy tickets for the upcoming season, Tom Ricketts walked around and greeted fans with coffee. He was wearing no hat, no tie, no suit. He looked like a Cub fan. He told Cubs fans "Just pretend it's opening day. It's always warm on opening day." One fan even said, "Owners, they're just like us!" This is the start of something lovely brewing between the new owners and the Cubs fans and we love it! Ricketts will be flying to Mesa on Monday to watch spring training. That's all we got for now, but as more happens we'll let you know !

2:42 PM - I got tickets! huzzah! May 18 vs. the Rockies! Floppy hat day! I've wanted this floppy hat for five years and finally I will be able to get one! If you have bleacher tickets for that game we'll see you there! In other news, the MRI that was taken on Ted Lilly's knee has come back negative and he was cleared to go back to work today. He was throwing long toss this morning and hopefully will be able to come back by April 15 like planned.

Hey y'all! Today's the day that many have been waiting for: Cubs tickets are on sale. So go curl up in a ball in your room or somewhere you won't be disturbed, and sit online for hours in this virtual waiting room crap to maybe not even get tickets. Also, today is the arbitration hearing for Ryan Theriot, so once there's word on that we'll let you know. Keep checking back as there should be a few updates today!

6:32 PM - Ok, so here's some news on Jeff Samardzija AKA "The Shark." He wants to be a starter. I know, not really news, but hear me out. He told ESPN 1000 today that he feels like he can help the Cubs more as a starter than a reliever; that his arm is young and he can go deep into games. He also says that if it doesn't work out, he'll be happy to be a set up man, but his first choice is starting. The problem for him has been that he's had a good fastball, an ok curve, but no third pitch. Well it seems like he's figured that out. Scouts who saw him throw in the winter league says that he has three good pitches now (which is really all you need to be an effective starter). And seeing as how the other choices for the fifth starter spot are Carlos Silva, Sean Marshall, and Tom Gorzelanny, we're pulling for "The Shark" as well.

Hey y'all! Here's some Cubs news! After all the rumors and talk about a possible trade of Z throughout the offseason, when asked about it today, Z said he would have vetoed any trade. What can we say, the man wants to be here. He's said he wants to retire a Cub. Ted Lilly, who's recovering from shoulder surgery, is going to have his right knee looked at by a doctor. He has been experiencing problems for the past week but doesn't believe it's anything serious. He threw off flat ground for the first time today since the surgury in November, and threw 25 pitches. Lou said yesturday that he expects Lilly back between April 15 and May 1, but Lilly recently said that wants to be ready by opening day. We feel that if he's not ready, don't push it. They need him if they want to go to the playoffs and the best chance he has at staying healthy this year is to wait a couple of weeks until he's completely healthy before joining the big league team. When there's more news, we'll let you know!
